On April 4, 2013, a gaming web page showed that the next-generation Xbox console - lingering to be published by Microsoft the next month - would require an always-on Internet connection so that you can work. The new version of the SimCity game that was released earlier that year with an always-on demand had been a calamity.
Hardcore gamers reacted negatively to the news. When the Xbox One games console was out officially on May 21, Microsoft effectively asserted that it might demand an always-on connection for validating digital rights. Naturally, gamers responded negatively, a response which was exacerbated when Microsoft's president of the interactive entertainment business, Don Mattrick, made dismissive statements about their concerns.
