The intent of this technical note would be to introduce a creativity exercise based on photograph stimulation to business-school faculty and to discuss how it can be used effectively in the MBA and executive education classrooms. Versions of this exercise are in use at design and initiation companies. It functions nicely for a 90-minute class session.
The aim is to get participants to participate in the processes of observation and idea generation by using a set of photographs (taken from a random family album) as the area of observation, and to gain an understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of this type of observational research.
