In the forty years up till 2010, Virgin Group's Sir Richard Branson (b. 1950) became, from a 'high school dropout' to a billionaire and international icon. The development of over 300 business interests in sections as far afield as the UK, South Africa, Australia and the USA resulted from an unique management style.
Branson and the Virgin brand frequently connect with music (for example records and music stores) and travel (airlines, trains and booked vacations) besides amid August 2007 and February 2008 they were concerned in a failed conquest of Northern Rock, a distorted British bank. Yet, as this case study will detail, Virgin Group was keen on entering the finance industry. The Northern Rock occasion was one of a long series of measures dating to the 1980s through which Virgin and Branson have been developing capacities to enter the British retail banking sector.
