Venture Capital in Asia demonstrates significant growth in the past two decades. Researchers and practitioners, however, expressed doubt that the currently reported as venture capital in Asia can really be classified as such. The authors of the research often avoid this debate and, therefore, not be able to warn readers about the validity of their research results. Through the study of the history, development and structure of venture capital in Asia, not only confirms the significant differences between Asian and traditional venture capital, but also believes that venture capital in Asia is not much different from what is commonly referred to as private equity. Thus, a need exists in the literature of venture capital to recognize this feature of the Asian venture capital market. In addition, venture capitalists are considering expansion in Asia should understand the nature of the Asian market, to avoid disappointment and frustration that can result from a lack of understanding.
