Toivonen adopted a centralized composition system, while Treelin adopted a salary determined on the basis of individual’s performance. Another issue would be the information delivery system, Toivonen has adopted email and internet for delivering information, while Treelin uses post-sift and pre-shift meetings o set targets. Recommendations- Changesin The Human Resource Policies

William had conducted several researches works over the U.S and Finnish cultural values. Both the organizations have different cultural values and norms. Cultures will be shaped according to the values of the group of people.Toivonen applied its corporate values in the U.S based company because it wanted to ensure alignment of its vision and mission with the foreign subsidiary along with ensuring that both organizations should represent same corporate values and ethics. Thus, it is recommended thatToivonen’s main concerns should include: developing strong employment relationship by providing environmental protection along with the employees’ safety measures. Thus, William should make proper changes in the human resource policies, prior to the implementation.

The new HR policies should include the following points: (See appendix 3)

  • Individual performance appraisal system.
  • Entry level selection should be based upon basic skills.
  • New information delivery system- excluding online email system.
  • Different payroll system including health care and pother fringe benefits.
  • Proper initial training for all the workers.

Conclusion

Treelin paper plant was a corporation for a finish paper product. It was purchased by a Toivonen Paper from Upimin Paper, a parent company- U.S. based company. It is concluded that William, the manager of Treelin Paper, analyzed the cultural differences in the U.S and Finns, and came up with the Finnish culture environment. He was wondered that how Finnish culture will impact the operational and management norms of the company. Toivonen applied its corporate values in the U.S based company, because the company wanted to ensure alignment of its vision and mission with the foreign subsidiary, along with ensuring that both the organizations should represent same corporate values and ethics...................................
