The proliferation of multinational companies from emerging nations has taken observers, policy makers and scholars by surprise. The authors' research on these up and coming MNCs shows several critical features that distinguish them from their developed country counterparts, specifically associated with their speed of internationalization, competitive (dis)advantages, political abilities, expansion course, preferred entry way and organizational adaptability.
Investigating these variables shows some of the advantages they enjoy, and how they have at times subverted traditional theories of growth. Managers of conventional, established MNCs can learn from their example by assuming more network-based organizational forms that are innovative and arrangements. They also need to think about sources of competitive strength other than brands and technology, particularly in the areas of political and execution skills - because the new strain of MNC is rapidly reshaping international competition
