Accountability at work place is often neglected and misunderstood in the organizations. It happens many times because of the organization’s culture that leads to unaccountable behavior in the employees for the task assigned while many times it is because of the misfits in organization, leading to demotivation and low morale and hence less accountability to the work. The recent researchers have found that the lack of accountability also occurs due to ambiguous job designs and descriptions which illustrates ambiguous duties to a personnel, leading to misinterpretation domain of work and hence low accountability.
Also,(Abhoghoush, 2015) outlines the lacking of management along with other elements that leads to less accountable behavior of the employees. Some of those elements are age-related to personal upbringings like ethics and values while some are enforced by the external environment like office politics, ambiguous domain of work, organizational culture and heavy workload. He also describes that due to the personal lacking and importance towards ethical working many employees tend to lay-off their responsibilities to others or under-performs so to make more value of the salary they received against it.

Also, Smith laid out the study mapmaking that since the motivation of employees shapes the performance and that the level of motivation are different for each employees, the failure to cope with the changing behavior leads to lack of accountability in the organization.

Accountability in workplace refers to the responsibilities of the employees to complete the tasks they are assigned by virtue of their position in the organization. It refers to the responsibility each employee carries while in the organizations. It also refers to the questionable criteria that each employee will be asked about the responsibility assigned to him.
