The development of Leadership and the executive education have drawn great attention in the recent age. The internal inclination is to approach the topic of direction as a hierarchically-established procedure that is centered on higher-level individual leaders influencing lower-level followers. This inclination is not inconsistent with myths surrounding charismatic and heroic visionary leaders who are regularly portrayed as single handedly inspiring and directing their organizations to new heights.
Sadly, the media promulgates these simplistic descriptions of leadership as wanted by the consuming public. However, this kind of framing of leadership is dangerous: it lays the seeds of centralization of power, which can have innumerable detrimental outcomes. Accordingly, we explore two powerful antidotes to this simplistic hierarchical formula of leadership that have become an increasing focus of direction research: self- leadership and shared leadership.
