By the year 2007 Ethos had transformed CSR into a notable national movement, which had even helped strengthen enforcement of some laws such as the prohibition of child labor. Two cases tell Ethos' storyline.
The first (A) case describe the societal context- the Brazilian private sector's ambiguous heritage of community conscience that is genuine yet cooperation with authoritarian regimes-and poses questions about Ethos' leaders shaped their relationships with company. How could they best strengthen the idea that company had moral obligations to society? How could they marshal influence to secure compliance with CSR norms?
