Tehelka Magazine (Tehelka) faced a communications and leadership dilemma when the Managing Director (MD) of Tehelka received an email from one of her colleagues, alleging that the founder/proprietor/editor-in-chief sexually assaulted her. The MD realized that he is needed to handle the scenario carefully through her communication with the victim, the perpetrator and other Tehelka staff, but it set off a firestorm when the communications were leaked publicly and in the media. The victim declaring that the managing director, a prestigious crusader of women’s rights, had not been paying attention towards the complaint, and thus she resigned. Ultimately, as this resignation acceptance leaked to the media, it caused various debates on the way MD chose to tackle the specific issue that compelled him to step down from her designation from Tehelka. The manager was wondering that what could be a way that could help resolving this issue, as she also had to answer the media about victim’s resignation.
