Talisman Energy Inc.: The Decision to Enter Iraq Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

In June 2008, the Chief Executive Officer of Talisman Energy Inc (Talisman) and its senior management met with the board of directors. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the proposed entry of Talisman in the oil-rich Kurdistan region in Iraq. This move was potentially very lucrative for Talisman, but it was fraught with risks. These risks are compounded by the previous foray Talisman in Sudan, during the expansion, that the mascot has been accused of complicity in human rights violations arising from the adopted sector royalties and fees it paid to the government.
