Swire Beverages, the largest Coca-Cola bottler in China, recently established corporate social responsibility (CSR) for the control of the environment, community, health and safety initiatives in companies' nine bottling plants in China. The case considers organizational design decisions in setting up a committee to monitor the various initiatives in the field of CSR, which occurred in dispersed locations of plants, and the ongoing work to better connect CSR activities to Swire Beverages brand and business strategy. In addition, Swire Beverage CSR team will need to balance the interests of key stakeholders, such as the Coca-Cola company and the parent company of John Swire and Sons. Finally, the case also illustrates some of the key tasks of carrying out CSR programs in China, in particular, the difficulty of finding suitable NGO partners. "Hide
