Supergrid is a mammoth wind power development scheme for Europe, recently proposed by Airtricity. The firm, founded in 1997, is a rapidly growing power development company focused on the wind. Having already built about 600 MW of wind turbines in Scotland and Ireland, Airtricity has now expanded into the United States. But his "Supergrid" proposal to build an offshore wind turbine capacity of 30,000 megawatts would change the face of European energy networks, the use of new technologies, and to help several European countries to meet their Kyoto Protocol targets for reducing CO2. The question is whether small companies like Airtricity has the human and financial resources to implement it, and whether there is in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and the EU can be made to work in this project.
