The "Tactical Conversations at Suncorp Commercial Insurance" case series analyzes the activities taken by the senior executives of the Australian-based Suncorp Commercial Insurance, working with strategy consultant 2nd Road, to assemble an aligned and dedicated work force following a difficult merger with a competing insurer, Promina Group. The A case summarizes both the process used, which features the broadly participative "strategic conversation" developed by 2nd Road, as well as the outcomes attained.
The A case introduces the context of the merger, the integration challenges by CI's senior leader, Mark Milliner, and the emergence of the "blooming city" metaphor that becomes the basis of the strategy. UV3914, the B case, analyzes the cascade process designed to roll out the metaphor to all employees. The C case, UV3915, shares the results of pre- and post-tests done to determine the extent to which participation in the procedure raised the understanding and dedication to the new strategy for those involved.
