Network Rainforest Action (RAN) was working "to protect the Earth's rainforests and support the rights of their inhabitants through education, grassroots organizing and non-violent direct action." RAN fulfilled his mission by organizing campaigns to redirect corporations from destruction and exploitation of forest resources nonsustainable. RAS worked with non-governmental organizations, student groups and the indigenous communities of the forest. Founded in 1985, it ran 10,000 members and an annual budget of $ 2 million in 2003. Over time, the scope was expanded campaign wound. RAS sought to stop the logging of virgin forests, protection of fragile ecosystems, as well as reduce the threat to the forests and the environment in relation to climate change. Wound three campaigns in 2004 - Old Growth campaign, the Global Campaign Finance and Jumpstart Ford - designed for this purpose. In April 2003, the board of directors was appointed Executive Director Michael Brune, a former campaign director for the organization. Brune and Board of Directors began a review of strategies and Sciences mission in light of the expansion of the campaign wound. RAN had limited resources and stretched to hold three campaigns.
