Defines the stages of development of corporate citizenship in large organizations. Based on a combination of U.S. and global research executive, a longitudinal study of 10 companies promoting their agenda citizenship, and several case studies, this article argues that a series of problems that companies encounter determines the pace of development of citizenship. Describes these evolutionary steps and the circumstances that cause movement and illustrates the characteristic attitude of the company and practices at every stage.
