March 21, 2008, the U.S. government reached an agreement by the two leading sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) to adopt a new set of investment principles governing the activities of the funds. SWFs, in a broad sense as an investment fund owned by the national government, or, have been gaining popularity around the world, especially with their recent investments in troubled financial companies in the U.S. that have suffered significant losses from the mortgage crisis.
