This study profiles the high-growth social gaming, where users play games like Farmville and Mafia Wars on social networks such as Facebook and MySpace, in order to communicate with friends and / or meet new people. By 2009, the social gaming industry is expected to grow to 250 million people play, compared to just 50 million a year ago. By late 2009, social games left considered the "Wild West" game in the U.S. to one that was a bright spot in the game industry (where video games and console sales were down at the rate of 20 percent a year), seriously by all players in the industry, including traditional publishers as Electronic Arts.
