As a way to better handle any resulting legal accountability and cyber threats from data breaches businesses have increasingly been turning to cyber risk insurance. But is this approach? Herein, I examine the effect of cyber attacks on companies, some of the relevant U.S. law shaping private sector responses to data violations, as well as the extent to which cyber hazard insurance helps mitigate the cyber danger. I argue that businesses must take a proactive stance toward handling cyber attacks-not only for their wellbeing, but also to enrich overall cybersecurity and help secure critical national infrastructure.
