Royal Dutch / Shell Group of companies owns an oil platform, Brent Spar in the North Sea. Brent Spar oil storage facility and a tanker loading buoy. He came to the end of its life and was put out of commission in September 1991. After careful study of the environmental impact of various disposal options, Shell concluded that deep water disposal was the safest strategy.
