Activism covered a range of approaches - to full blown takeover attempts, from proxy votes to asking for Board seats - and sought to force changes on a variety of problems - from executive pay and corporate governance, to excessive corporate overhead and strategic direction. Oftentimes, activists demanded sale of part of the company to a different owner, or the spinning off or the splitting up of the corporate thing.
