SELCO India Bangalore-based social enterprise that makes solar lighting technology, access to the economically poor people in India. SELCO was founded in 1995 by H. Harish Hande. Since his graduate student, Harish firmly believed in the potential of solar energy to increase the agricultural productivity of the household. This case describes the evolution of SELCO as an organization, as well as various issues that Harish and SELCO had to face before they could build a viable business model to provide sunlight for the poor.
