The manager of Visitor Services with Saskatchewan Park Services (Park Services) was thinking ahead to next year, even though 2011 was still four months away. Park Services had experienced several tumultuous years round the provincial park campground reservation system. Additionally, the current system severely limited the type of services that may be developed for tourists and campers on campers due to the lack of quality data. While measures were taken in 2009 and 2010 to address some of the major difficulties surrounding the campground reservation system, serious issues linger with necessary action.
This was particularly true when the system in place in Saskatchewan was evaluated to new campground reservation systems recently used in Manitoba, Alberta and also the federal national park system. The supervisor symbolized on the disruptive 2008 season, the relative calm in 2009 due to the new issues that had originated in 2010 as well as the success of the temporary fixes. She was feeling the need to move forward and decide on a more permanent option that resolved the operational issues of the current reservation system while also laying the foundation for improved services for campers.
