Russia–1994 Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Describes Russia's transition from a centrally planned economy under communist rule to a more market economy under the democratic political regime. Can be used to discuss the complementarity of economic strategy elements, and the optimal sequence of political and economic reforms. The first section provides an overview of the strategy Gorbachev's reforms and the political and economic chaos after the partial implementation of relatively weak economic and political reforms. The second section describes the radical reforms Yeltsin's strategy in 1992 at the same time to achieve macroeconomic stabilization, price reform and privatization.
