Roxbury Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Roxbury is a glamorous eco-cabaret in Hollywood. During the 2010 renovation, they added two green walls to the indoor/outdoor patio developing a quiet lounge area that functions as a grand entryway into the event space.

Design Challenge

This installment was part of a larger remodel of an existing cabaret. In creating the green walls, the primary challenge was that the walls were not even and had numerous little obstacles and windows. The pockets were not so inflexible that they were able wrap around corners and to cover uneven surfaces.

A large alloy framework was welded on site to act as a support of the large-scale setup. Pockets were mounted to this construction. Shutters covered in pockets were created to cover present windows. During the day, they let light into the space and are open and at night they're closed, allowing the green wall to look seamless.

Designer Access

The Roxbury is open during regular evening hours and occasions.

Climate

The Roxbury installment looks like it is indoors, but is really a covered outdoor space. The space isn't climate controlled. Los Angeles is in hardiness zone 10. It was critical to decide plants that could bear some season cooling back in winters of 1950’s in Los Angeles.
