Is your heart flooded by commiseration? Or do forgotten mental notations to analyze the matter permeate your brain? Although we are closely familiar with joblessness and its own effects, we are much less conscious of underemployment and its particular impact on individuals and organizations.
In line with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in January 2012, underemployment was estimated to affect more than 10 million individuals in the American civilian labor force. Its magnitude indicates that underemployment is an important issue for all involved. By combining practical experiences from an outplacement business (the Right Management, lead by our second writer) academic research has taught us, we herein detail five distinct types of underemployment, converse widely held assumptions related to the issue, and provide suggestions related to the ways that the organizations will exploit the power of the market-wide phenomenon.
