For quite some time, Towers Watson (TW) has conducted its own research into alternative strategies to market cap investing. Philip Tindall senior investment adviser with TW was impressed by a recent demonstration by the CIO of Research Affiliates (RA) about an advanced investing concept known as the "Fundamental Index methodology."
He believes it might be an important innovation in using nonmarket limit tactics, however he's some concerns about the approach and whether or not it'd be proper for TW clients. Customers depended on TW to keep them on the frontier of institutional investing, but advocating an untried investment strategy and deviating from status quo investment practice could either generate outperformance relative to their investment consulting adversaries, therefore attracting new customers, or it might result in underperformance and defection of their customers to all those adversaries.
