In 1978, the U.S. Congress passed the Pregnancy Discrimination (PDA) to protect the civil rights of mothers in the workplace. Since then, various court decisions changed the interpretation of the act. These changes, along with more working women do PDA compliance more difficult. This problem is reflected in the 39% increase in the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaints in the past decade and a 66% increase in the plaintiff wins during the same time period.
