Massive damage and misery occurred as Indian Ocean tsunami hit several continents on December 26, 2004, with Indonesia's Aceh Province (located on the far northern crown of Sumatra Island) experiencing the very worst.
In the tsunami's wake - and with offers of billions of dollars of assistance coming from all corners of the earth- the Indonesian government encountered the overwhelming job of implementing a substantial recovery effort which could fulfill with the expectations of donors and survivors alike. In April 2005, the president in Indonesia created bearing this specific at heart a national-level, ad hoc bureau -- known by its own acronym, BRR -- to coordinate reconstruction tasks around the state.
This case presents innumerable of the center challenges the leaders of BRR struck as they moved to set up the agency and after that persisted in organizing and implementing a recovery procedure requiring hundreds of national and international partner organizations and tens of thousands of reconstruction jobs that are independent.
