Reading Rehab Hospital experimented with popular new concept in health care - a patient-focused care - designed to improve the quality and reduce the cost of medical care for specific diagnosis or "communications" and not about function or discipline of health care providers. This is equivalent to the product, and not focusing. Rehabilitation includes several disciplines that must exchange information on their assessments of the patient, the planned treatment, and patient progress. The decisions and actions of one doctor depends on the other. This case illustrates the effect of a fundamental problem for service operations - the variable demand and the limitations on the activities of the organization of production in the face of uncertain demand, due to the loss of association. Finally, methods to achieve the benefits of coordination of communications at a time when the level or stability of demand is not enough to justify the use of the service lines. "Hide
