Rambus, Inc was established to develop a new type of high-speed memory chip technology DRAM, to keep pace with the ever-faster microprocessors. Following the development of technologies Rambus chose an unusual approach to the licensing of commercialization. This case describes a number of challenges faced by Rambus, as it tries to make its technology the new dominant standard in PCs, game consoles and devices that use DRAM.
