Pushing the Envelope: Engine Development and Procurement for the F-15 Fighter Jet (A) Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

In November 1977, U.S. Air Force officials have expressed growing concern about the restrictions on their tactical capabilities, resulting in problems with the new line of F100 engine in an F-15 and F-16 fighters. Engine F100, production and Pratt Whitney Aircraft, a powerful new engine, which has played an important role in the U.S. air defense system. The development of the engine began in the late 1960s, and its specifications are pushed the envelope of technological possibilities. Despite the failure to be expected, there has long been a growing concern about the unreliability of F100 engines in combat situations.
