In order to increase incomes in rural communities, by the end of 2001, Proyecto Paria Foundation (FPP) have completed a plan to revive the cocoa economy. At the heart of the plan was Carioca, civil association established for the processing and marketing of cocoa, whose partners were five producer associations (50%), FPP (30%), and EMER, commercial company (20%). The project was successful from the beginning: in the first year, CARIOCA exported 100 tons of cocoa. However, by the end of 2003 it became clear that not only threatens the circumstances work CARIOCA, but the existence of the base: the leaders of the five associations of producers, instigated by local politicians, tried to seize control of the CARIOCA. Opens only after the leaders asked the FPP, to leave the board of directors and the administration of the plant for processing cocoa. At this point, the two main characters (both leaders FPP) was faced with the dilemma of deciding whether to leave the CARIOCA or try to regain control of the organization.
