This technical note explains how group membership affects the person who thinks he or she is, and how the person behaves in an organization. Hofstedes levels of personality models are introduced and a simple description of social identity theory is laid out. This memo is a useful tool for the discussion of group differences, because it argues that identification as a member of the group is not contrary is also a unique personality. The note was written for use in interpersonal behavior, and can be useful in a variety of organizational behavior courses.
