In 2003, the industrial manufacturer Eaton, NGOs for the protection of the environment, as well as delivery giant Federal Express have formed a partnership to develop a hybrid electric truck. Although environmental protection was the experience of creating a successful partnership with corporations, it was the first time that a product with a significant high-tech components to be launched in the commercial market. Eaton served its purpose of providing a working prototype on time and FedEx began a small pilot program with hybrid trucks in 2004. Media coverage of the new truck was positive, and the project won the Roy Family Environmental Excellence in the School of Public Administration at the Kennedy in May 2005.
