For French watchmaker Pequignet, its return to the yearly high-end watch and jewelry show, Baselworld, signed a new page in the business’s 40-year history. As the only "haute horlogerie" producer in France since the quartz catastrophe in the 1970s, Pequignet had captured the focus of both the media and also the watch collector community, despite going through receivership and a change of ownership. In addition to showcasing its Calibre Royal selection, Pequignet presented a new line of entry level watches.
Should the firm invest further in its manufacturing procedures to produce high end mechanical watches, as it had before? Or should it focus on creating more accessible products that are reasonable in price, as with its most recent collection? As an independent atelier, Pequignet had to concentrate on these questions to be able to be successful in the highly competitive international watch market.
