Zenovia Evans, mayor of a small Chicago suburb of Riverdale, was determined to keep Pacesetter division that was once her home. As part of its efforts to save the deteriorating area, Mayor Evans joined a broad and innovative campaign for affordable housing for the entire Chicago metropolitan area, a region with a troubled history of race and class relations. Several influential business and civic leaders to learn about the predicament of the inner ring suburbs to the south of the city, decided to lend a hand. They helped Riverdale village to develop a plan to repair, not demolish, division and helps set the tone for developers to find programs that could provide significant funding that was needed to carry out the project.
