MEMBERS OF THE CASE MANAGEMENT TEAM:
The members of the case management team who have studied and analyzed the couple consist of three members Daisha Johnson, Rebecca Swain and Joseph King. They are the Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist and the Certified Nursing Assistant. They have closely studied and analyzed the couple and reached to some conclusions.
DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION:
The case study is about an elderly couple who is retired and they live their lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. The name of the husband is Otis and the name of wife is Ophelia, both the husband and wife are aged individuals and they are past their professional careers. Otis is roughly 78 years old and his wife is above 75 years old. They are living on their pensions as they have retired from their jobs and have no other means of income.
Ophelia is suffering from several diseases and she is bound to her bed and the wheel chair that keeps her mobile to some extent. She is suffering from some serious diseases, which include brain and nervous system break-downs, diabetes and dementia to some extentand that makes her very dependable on her husband as he is the only other individual who lives with her in the house andhe helps and assists her in her every daily routine necessity.
Arthur is also an aged person and he is suffering from knee and joint pains and uses braces to walk, he is also suffering and exposed to dementia as the couple is elderly and lives a lonely life without any frequent social activities and interactions. He has taken the responsibility of house work but the untidiness of the house and things spread all over make it difficult for him to work. Above all, he doesn’t know how to cook and this is a concern for both the individuals as food is the basic necessity.
ASSESMENTS:
After carefully analyzing the case study about the elderly couple the following issues have been identified:
HEALTH ISSUES:
Both the husband and wife are agedpeople and they have encountered several diseases over the course of time. Ophelia is suffering from several severe diseases and that has limited her mobility to a great extent as she is dependent on her husband. She has been suffering from severe nervous break downs for roughly fifteen years along with some other diseases like diabetes and dementia. Due to all these deficiencies she cannot even do her daily routine things which are a necessity herself. She has developed a habit of keeping unnecessary things in the house due to her dementia disease and it creates difficulty for her husband while working in the house as things are spread all over the place.
FINANCIAL ISSUES:
The other most critical issue for both the husband and wife is that they do not have any other means of financial income. Both the husband and wife are rather elderly people and they are past their professional careers. They have retired from their jobs for some time and they are spending their lives on the pension fund that they receive from the government.
It is clearly obvious from the case study that the couple lacks the financial resources, health and age to start a new business or any other source of income and they are totally dependent on their jobs. This financial barrier is huge for them as they are barely meeting both ends. They can’t afford to hire someone to look after them and other facilities like psychiatrist and other supporting needs. Their purchasing power has also decreased over the time due to their squeezed financial position. The increase in inflation rates over the years has also influenced and decreased their purchasing power to an extent...........................
