Freelancers collects commissions, about 10% of gross services for all the work that goes through their platform. Freelancers enjoyed steady growth since its inception and to date has focused on a very different market segments: small and medium-sized employers, contractors who provide services to computer programming, and US-based employers to hire foreign contractors. Swart said it was time for freelancers to go beyond this niche, but is concerned about maintaining a strong reputation freelancers and positioning in the market and, as such, he wants to grow in a very focused way.
