In 2005 a new law was passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by the president, who has made a number of significant amendments to the law of the United States Bankruptcy affecting both business and consumer bankruptcy. This law, called the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA), which entered into force on 17 October 2005.
