Rob Thomas describes some of the challenges he faced as a white, middle-aged man, who is managing director of mid-sized consulting firm, where he wants to increase the staff gender and racial diversity. Not wanting to risk the disapproval of any constituency, Thomas was initially paralyzed from his desire to act as a fair and infallible leader.
