Job-based work has become a crucial part of international industrial action. Between other functions, jobs are used to come up with new services and products, improve operations flows, implement innovative information technologies, and conduct primary R&D.
At the exact same time, project management is a core skill requirement for numerous corporations worldwide expecting to use a way of enhancing both effectiveness and the efficacy of their operations. Sadly, the track record for project development has not been powerful. This article addresses some reasons why jobs and project management have failed to live up to lofty expectations, asserting the seeds of failure are often sown through blemished job preparation from the start.
Citing the common errors in human judgment and drawing on examples that are numerous, we offer guidelines by which job preparation can start to work as it was meant: on behalf of the job rather than at cross purposes with the goals of the job.
