Liability Problems Case Solution
This note sheds light on the examples of the recognition and measurement of liabilities. The first focuses on understanding when workers have rendered services for which future period benefits have been brought in, that is, whether sick, unused vacation, and personal days at the end of a year lead to a future duty for the firm.
The second note discussesthe accounting for debt problems at a discount and at a premium-- distinguishing between coupon payments, paid in cash each interval, and the acknowledgement of interest expense for that period. The third involves an obligation incurred in the current payment for ten years which payment will be delayed. Although the difficulty is particularly one of deferred compensation, the principle may be generalized to involve recognition of pension and other post-employment benefit expenses.
