ITC Limited: India First Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

The case traces the evolution of ITC Limited (ITC) since its creation as a marketing subsidiary of British American Tobacco (BAT) in 1910 in one of the most valuable diversified corporations in India. It is noteworthy that despite the dominant market leader in socially undesirable tobacco business, ITC considered as a responsible corporate citizen. More importantly, ITC which considers itself the "Indian" company in which BAT, its former parent'''' is a large and important shareholder'''' may be held as an example of India Way - looking for the interests of public shareholders mission and national objectives - formulated professor Peter Cappelli and his colleagues at Wharton. Century history is recorded in five sections. While the first part traces the early years of the company, in the next four sections present the evolution of ITC under its four Indian Presidents.
