Supplement to case IN1297. e-Choupal, an effort of ITC Ltd. introduced in 2000, endeavours to put computer systems with web connection in towns in rural India. 'Choupal' is Hindi for 'collecting location': the computer system center offers to bring villagers all together for exchange of details and as an e-commerce center. Although the main goal of the task is to bring performance to ITC's procurement procedure, a crucial by-product is the empowerment of farmers in locations where e-choupals are developed.
