At the June 2007, Central City Medical Group (CCMG) board meeting, Deb Moore, Executive Director, reported that there were building tensions brought on by the implementation of an electronic health record (EHR). Productivity and physician morale were spiraling downward. As doctors stayed well below historical productivity levels while learning to utilize the new EHR the present challenge was the growing disparity between the patient workload and doctor ability. The medical director had resigned her place and other senior doctors were threatening to retire. Ms. Moore had a pressing question for the board: should CCMG quit accepting new patients until they returned to full productivity?
