The extent of the recent economic crisis has compelled many firms to re-examine their objectives and company strategies, including executive pay systems and their worker. Salary levels, as a whole, have remained level, so as to help reduce costs. The most significant changes have been to variable pay models. New approaches, such as clawback pay deferral or vesting, are increasingly common, often as an effect of better governance codes and new regulations. Based on their study of the insurance and financial sectors in Spain, several methods in which firms can improve worker and executive compensation coverages are recommended by them.
