We are deeply concerned about what other people think of us, and, as a consequence, mattering maps "have a powerful influence on our behavior. Basically, there mattering map for each person, each of the social environment and to society as a whole, so that each person usually belongs to more than one social group - jobs, family, friends, those groups and mattering maps that are applied to them often overlap. Mattering maps can be a source of suffering for some, but given the realities of human nature, they can not avoid. The authors show that, in the end, as they allow the greatest achievements of the human race, when we are competing to outdo each other, the things that are meaningful, and our greatest folly when we are competing for the actions that are wasteful or destructive.
