Today's business leaders are pressed to meet environmental (ECO) sustainable enterprise, but should do so with fewer resources. Given the protracted global recession, our concern is that the motivation for environmental sustainability may not be as strong as hoped, nor as fast or strong as expected. To create more accurate speech on sustainability activities in an economic downturn, we explained the basics to help business leaders to examine their strategic perspective based on the identity of the organization. We describe how this can affect how leaders broach change in their organizations, taking the surface or deep approach to environmental sustainability. The goal is to emphasize the importance of an honest assessment of the company goals and to work towards a more relational orientation in the new economy. To establish environmental sustainability during this period of recession, we believe the middle path to the adoption of a mixed perspective.
