Ho Tak Kee Book Co. Ltd. – A Third Generation at a Crossroads (A) Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Ho Tak Kee was originally a professional publisher and printer that started in the 1950s in Hong Kong. Having faced performance that was static for decades, the founder and grandpa of the family decided to shut the printing section. This pressed against his youngest son, On-ping, to a critical decision: whether and the best way to continue the family business.

To his son John for support, On-ping turned under pressure but the request put John in a tough situation of choosing between a professional career and the family business. Case (A) is from John's standpoint as he's making his choice and is thought to provoke pupils to have a look at a family business from a third generation's perspective. Case (B) starts with John's choice to join Ho Tak Kee.
